INSPIRATION: Pantone's Colours of the Year!

Here at Télio, since we work in the fashion/textile industry, we anxiously await the announcement of Pantone‘s colour of the year, every year.

It can confirm or confuse our choices for the coming year, as well as inspire us to create prints based on the trendy colour.

For the first time ever, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2016 is actually 2 colours! A colour combination, meant to be experienced as one.

They’ve carefully chosen: Rose Quartz (13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919) as 2016’s trendy colour combo. Here’s how they describe their choice:

”As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colours that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of colour association.

In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted colour trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to colour is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using colour as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to colour usage.”

As per usual after this announcement, we can expect a bunch of different products and graphics showcasing these colours in a variety of different industries. It sets the colour tone for the coming year and it’s totally exciting and inspiring. They always manage to surprise us!

That being said, we were kind of expecting pastels, but the colour combination took us by surprise and we’re very into it!

Here are two Télio fabrics that perfectly match Pantone‘s colour of the year combination for 2016! Our Karlie Crepe (style 36504, colour 08) and our Montgomery Light (style 34002, colour 13).

Of course, you’re welcome to do whatever you want with it, but we prefer to use it for other things. What kind of things you may ask? The possibilities are endless! Coats for one, […]
