THROWBACK THURSDAY 10TH ANNIVERSARY- A Recap of 2012

Just like we’ve been doing every Thursday up until this year’s finale of Canada’s Breakthrough Designers, we’re taking the time to relive some of the most memorable moments from the past editions of the competition!

Rouge+Red, the theme pertaining to 2012, evoked strong symbolism and acted as an undeniable influence for all. Red, with its wide range of shades and tones, from vibrant brights to somber darks, was the choice colour for the TÉLIO fabric of this edition.  From romance, to passion, to courage, this powerful colour brought a different source of inspiration for the hundreds of students from 23 different schools across the country.

It was the four jury members, Joeffer Caoc, Sarah Casselman, Annick Charbonneau, and Valérie Dumaine, who were given the task of selecting the sketches that best illustrated the red theme, and whose technical and creative aptitudes stood out the most. The same jury then evaluated the 25 finalists’ completed pieces in order to select the top 5 which would take home the scholarships, amounting to a total of $15,000, up from $10,000 of the previous year. It was a unanimous decision to award Alexander Arsenault with the 1st place prize, whose unique garment delivered high technical quality and commercial appeal- exactly what the competition searches for amongst finalists!

We leave you here with a video and several photos, showcasing the 25 finalists from the 2012 Rouge+Red edition!
