Canada’s Breakthrough Designers Finalist Q&A: Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy
Our last Finalist Q&A of 2014… Marie-Camille Désy from Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy, in Quebec City.
What is your favorite drawing tool to use when brainstorming ideas?
Scissors and a stick of glue! I began several years ago keeping in a scrapbook images of fashion and other things that inspired me. I use it during brainstorming sessions; it contains only forms, colours and feelings that I like and which represent me. I refer to it and the ideas then evolve onto paper (sketches) and continue to develop until I am satisfied with the outcome.
Who/What is your biggest influence when designing?
When I create a new garment, I keep in mind that it has to suit a public target. The needs and desires of the public influence my creations, nonetheless staying true to my style. I aim to create a reliable link to my future clientele by continually meeting their needs.
How would your best friend describe yourself?
I simply asked my closest friends to describe me in a single word. This is what they answered: “perseverant, creative, ambitious, passionate, unique and real “.
Favourite things to do in Quebec City?
I adore taking time to stop so I can enjoy the city as if I have never set foot in it before. I particularly enjoy having a great meal and I find that the city of Quebec offers several places that perfectly define “the art of dining “. The experience is also about rediscovering the city’s magnificent architecture full of history. It is about listening to the street music that charms the pedestrians of Old Quebec City. It is also about living to the rhythm of the music shows, the plays and all the events that the city proposes twelve months a year.
I truly hope you enjoyed discovering this year’s talented fashion students! Tonight is the grand finale Fashion Show at Montreal’s new Fashion event, D Moment.
Stay tuned for the winners that we will announce right here, tomorrow.
