Finalists
Ekaterina Kuzheleva:

Why did you choose Fashion Design?
Fashion has been my main interest since childhood. I began by designing and sewing clothes for my Barbie dolls, and later for myself. When it was time to pick a university program, I naturally chose to study fashion design.

Mickelli Orbe:

Who or what inspires you most?
It is impossible not to be inspired by the work of other designers. We are so fortunate to benefit from the generosity of some creatives to allow a bit of access to their design process through books and documentaries. Whether or not I subscribe to their aesthetic or know much about their work is irrelevant. I find myself constantly inundated with a surplus of visual stimulus and it is always very refreshing to see how some people are able to surmount the challenge of sifting through that saturation, harness their imagination and create beauty. Most of the time the process itself is more inspiring than the product, and the concepts they investigate push my personal boundaries. In my mind I boldly and audaciously wish that my learning is in some way a conversation with these designers I so admire and respect. The boldest thing I have ever done is to allow myself to peer into their work and allow it to further my own creativity.

School Representative
Audrey Colphon – Technician

What does Télio represent for your school?
Télio represents a chance for our students to showcase their talents on a professional stage. It also represents an opportunity to network with like-minded people from across the country that they may otherwise not have a chance to encounter, all while enjoying Montréal.

What do you think differentiates your Fashion Design Programme from others?
The Ryerson Fashion programme is very strong on technical skills and immerses students in a four year curriculum to master their skills while earning their Bachelor of Design degree.

See you next Monday with more details on this year’s finalists and their schools!
