Team TÉLIO: Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer 2014

The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a unique two day, 230 km cycling event and international fundraiser for cancer research. The journey takes riders from Montreal to Quebec City, through our provinces beautiful countryside. Yesterday Team TÉLIO completed this journey and are proud to say we raised a total of $25 077.45!

Marking its 6th year, 1468 riders helped raise $5.3 million for the Jewish General Hospital. This money is used to help power a wide range of life-saving cancer research initiatives, breakthrough treatment and world-class care programs for patients in Montreal and across the province at the Fondation du CHU de Québec and the Fondation régionale pour la santé de Trois-Rivières. In 6 years The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer has raised $37 million for cancer programs at the Jewish General Hospital and its partners.

The journey was not an easy one, but we pulled together and made it happen! We even ended up exceeding our fundraising goal! Check out our stories below!

“I joined the ride 6 months after my aunt Sheryl was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer that had spread to her lungs. I was not a cyclist, I didn’t even own a bike, but this was my chance to do something special for her during her fight. A challenge I could conquer. Unfortunately she didn’t make it to see me cross the finish line. She lost her battle in March 2014. This ride was definitely a huge physical and mental accomplishment for me, but with every struggle, every ache and pain and every hill I just reminded myself that this was nothing compared to fighting cancer, and every time I saw a yellow flag pass me by, indicating a cancer survivor, my strength was renewed! This truly was life changing experience for me!” – Jessica Pevzner

“Participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer was definitely one of the biggest physical accomplishments I’ve endured in my life! Riding alongside the likes of very well trained bikers to cancer survivors and (a few) under prepared bikers like myself, it really felt like such a huge community of people riding to make a difference in the fight against cancer no matter what! I know what we just went through is nothing compared to being sick, which is what pushed me to keep going, as I’ve had family members and coworkers who have been through this fight. It was also a great way to spend a final weekend with some of my Telio coworkers as I am moving on to new adventures as of today!” – Katelyn Bishop

“Sadly we’ve had 3 co-workers battling cancer in the past couple of years and unfortunately one of them; our dearest co-worker, Tina Provenzano lost her battle last spring. This was my main motivation behind joining The Ride to Conquer Cancer and I’m so proud to have done the ride and to have challenged myself physically and mentally. This past weekend was a great experience to have shared with my co-workers and I will cherish it always. I’m very proud that I freaking did it! I biked to Quebec City!!” – Jeanne Brosseau

There are so many people around us affected by this disease. It is really unfair. For me, doing the ride was about recognizing the courage of three very special ladies at TELIO that were afflicted by this terrible illness. They are my Heroes. They are my inspiration. I pray that one day we will find a cure for Cancer and I know that events like The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer are helping us towards that goal. I am grateful towards all my donors that made it possible for me to have the opportunity to participate in this event! I was so thrilled by the experience that I have committed to participating in it again next year. And I am looking forward to it! – Karla Graham

The Endbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer superseded all my expectations! Being part of a group of 1400 people who came together, challenged ourselves physically, in honor of, support of, and in collaboration with those who have no choice but to face the physical challenge of beating cancer was unbelievable! When I rode alongside an older man who had a yellow flag on his bike, meaning he was a cancer survivor or was currently working to beat his cancer, the significance of what we were out there doing was certain. We cycled over 230 km to face a challenge we could beat, to ride in solidarity with those who need our help to overcome their challenges. The director of the Jewish general hospital told us that at the time of the first Ride to Conquer Cancer there were approximately 50,000 cancer patients receiving treatment at the Segal Cancer Center at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. Now there are over 90,000 patients receiving treatment there. We raised 5.3 million dollars that will help offer treatment to those 90,000 heroes and hopefully fund research that will bring the number of people afflicted by cancer back down! I can’t wait to participate in this event again next year and hope that you will all join us in supporting this incredibly important cause!  – Laura Telio

After all the accolades about the ride and the amount of money raised etc. the greatest moment for me was when three courageous young ladies crossed the finish line. With limited equipment and a lack of experience they never quit, so congratulations to Katelyn, Jessica and Jeanne.– Elliot Goldberg

Une expérience extraordinaire que j’ai vécu en compagnie de gens extraordinaires et pour des gens plus qu’extraordinaires !!!! – Francois Viens
