Interview: Designer Snapshot with Sofia Clothing
Chilean transplant Sofia Mendez Schenone is the designer behind Sofia Clothing. In 2011, after being crowned best up and coming designer in Western Canada’s Generation Next competition, she gained the momentum to move to Vancouver from Victoria and has been making waves ever since.
I love it when Sofia visits the showroom! She is always full of positive and creative energy. I recently asked her to answer a few questions for us…
What’s a typical day for you? I get up very early, have coffee/breakfast with my boyfriend, then check my email and get ready for yoga class. I work at my home studio all day, might take a break to meet up with a friend for coffee or go for a walk, and enjoy the evening with my boyfriend, whether it’s relaxing, or going out to see what the city has to show us.
What is your main motivation when doing what you do? I simply love what I do. It’s so much fun and exciting to start with an idea, with a dream, and then to be able to transform it and make it into something real.
Favorite shopping destination? Paris (any excuse to say, let’s go to Paris)
Favorite designer at the moment? Ricardo Tisci
Favorite item in your closet? Right now, a virgin wool blazer from my fall collection.
Last article of clothing or accessory you purchased? Handmade ankle boots. Gorgeous, small square heel, almond toe, dirty-black with animal print back heel.
Motto you live by? Do what you love and love what you do.
