Brittany J. Jones : DIY Wide Leg Pants
Black Allegro Denim (33860-02) Wide Leg Pants: Simplicity 8701 Week 2: TÉLIO Collaboration by Brittany J. Jones
Hey everybody! It’s Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great day! Today we’re continuing on with Week 2 – our month long collab with TÉLIO. On Monday, I shared some really cute ready-to-wear inspiration looks for pants and skirts! Wide leg pants are by far my favorite style of pants. Like I said in my inspiration post, I think they are really flattering to my figure and I feel like I grow a couple inches whenever I wear them!
Simplicity 8701 was the pattern I used to make these. I really enjoyed making these. The pattern was easy to follow along with, and the pants come together really nicely. This pattern is the one in the Simplicity Pattern Hacking line. Although I have a couple of these hacking patterns, this was the first one I’ve actually gotten around to making.
Initially I found the pattern to be really confusing lol! It took me a minute to really look at it to understand it. These patterns differ from the regular patterns in a couple ways but one of the first that you will notice is the back of the envelope and the fabric requirements.
Because these patterns are made for hacking, you can easily mix and match pieces and buy fabric for only the pieces you need. I love that about these! I also love how the pattern instructions are sectioned off, making it easy again to only sew the steps you need. I also really enjoyed the extra tips for taking your garment like the fraying tips!
For size, I cut the 20 for the waist, and a 22 for the hips. If you want to see how I merge pattern lines to get a different size in my waist and hips, you can check out this YouTube video I made showing the steps I take to do it.
The fabric I used for my pants is this Allegro Black Denim. It feels great and I love the horizontal stretch that it has in it. Its a great weight denim to make jackets and jeans in, especially skinny jeans. I found these TÉLIO denims at Stone Mountain Fabrics, and they also have it available in a sky blue denim.
I know today’s post is all about the pants, but they also have the Rayon Voile Print that I made my top in, available their shop as well!
I love the finished look of my new denim pants. These will get plenty of wear in my closet. Be sure to come back Friday for the Sew With Me video. I will walk you through step-by-step to making your own Simplicity 8701 pants. Until then….

Emily Hallman : apple of my eye
the TÉLIO project: apple of my eye / by Emily Hallman Designs I have lived in a number of different states: one with natural seasons, one that was cold for way too long, and three that hadn’t gotten the memo about changing seasons at all and are pretty warm most of the time. I used […]
TÉLIO + Peppermint Jumpsuit by The Sara Project Hey everyone! I’m slowly making my way back into the blogging sphere, and I’m kicking it off with a killer jumpsuit I made recently using TELIO’s tencel denim fabric. IT IS GOOD. I’ve been wanting to make the Peppermint Jumpsuit by In The Folds for a while now (it’s […]
