WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND WEDNESDAYS: MULLED WINE RECIPE
Do you have something exciting or perhaps relaxing that you might be looking forward to on your weekends? On this particular weekend, the weather is finally supposed to be dry, warm and sunny here in Ontario. So, we have decided to head up North with some close friends to enjoy in the comforts of our early fall season. One of our favourite ways to pass the time is to sit curled up in a sweater or throw by the fire pit playing games. Here at Telio, we have many options for fabrics that you could use for throws or blankets. You decide on the length and simply finish the edges with your machine or binding of your choice. There is nothing better than curling up by the television, or with a book or in this case by the fire with a glass of mulled wine in hand. This recipe, even when modified will be a sure hit at any gathering you have this fall. Enjoy!

Side Note: I made my own modifications below should you not have some of these suggested ingredients on hand.
750ml red wine
150g castor sugar (I use brown sugar)
1/2 cup orange juice
peel of one lemon (I slice half a lemon and orange and place in the pot)
peel of one orange
1 star anise (I exclude this due not having this on hand)
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp fresh nutmeg
pinch of ginger
- Place all ingredients except the wine into a large saucepan and place on medium heat. Add just a small glug of red wine to the pan to ensure the sugar is covered and let it cook for 4-5 minutes until it becomes thick and sticky. This should let all the spices infuse well.
- Once the mixture has become sticky enough, add the rest of the wine and turn down the heat. You don’t want the wine to boil otherwise all the alcohol will evaporate!!! Let cook for 5 minutes and serve hot with slices with fresh orange.
Enjoy a delicious cup of mulled cider this weekend! Happy Wednesday.
