CATCHING UP WITH: Télio's Canada's Breakthrough Designers Competition 2007 Special Mention Winner Thomas Tait
In 2007, at Télio’s Canada’s Breakthrough Designers Competition, one student caught the attention of our panel of judges, so much so that they awarded him a special creative mention (that has been part of the competition’s prizes ever since). Thomas Tait’s garment was so expertly constructed that they needed to acknowledge it, even though it didn’t necessarily […]
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Comedienne Tranna Wintour
If you’ve been anywhere in Montreal in the past few weeks, you’ve probably caught a glimpse of comedienne Tranna Wintour. She’s on the cover of CULT magazine this month in honour of her one-woman show during Montreal’s Fringe Festival (going on now). For the past few years, Ms.Wintour has been blowing up the comedy scene […]
LASALLE COLLEGE’S SOIRÉE MODE – SNEAK PEAK!
On the surface, Lasalle College’s Soirée Mode is a blank canvas. Their teaser video portrays just that; a white bubble television turned to a static channel, with snippets introduced by 4 different hashtags- #HYSTERIA, #BRKLYNSBADDST, #DUPLICATA, and #PLUR. Four different realities, two shows, one integrated event. This ambiguity, however, is completely intentional. The Fashion Presentation […]
Cultural Perceptions of Fashion: Welcome to Brazil!
With all eyes on Brazil for the Fifa World Cup, it is clear that passion is the name of their game. Something special is going on in Brazil and the reason has nothing to do with cultural clichés like soccer and samba. Brazil is claiming its place on the global platform and fascinatingly, fashion is […]

Androgyny has become a prominent style for women, especially in recent years. This look consists of traditional menswear silhouettes that capture the power and sophistication of masculine style with a rebellious edge. From Le Smoking Suit (the first ever tuxedo suit for women, top left) designed by Yves Saint Laurent, to the photoshoot of Cate Blanchette (Top Right), […]
TÉLIO TALK: Donating Fabric Samples to Urban Source
Here at Télio we have a dedicated team in our sample room that prepares hundreds of fabric hangers and samples daily. These are essential for our business – this is how we showcase and sell our gorgeous fabrics! But I get one question over and over again: What do we do with these fabric samples […]
A New York Moment: Issue New York
NEW YORK CITY. I like to call it the center of the world. Well, at least the center of the fashion world. With American designers leading the branding and licensing phenomenon; the transformation of labels into household names, NYC has become the capital of the fashion industry, especially within the cocktail and special occasion dress […]
Canada’s Breakthrough Designers Finalist Q & A: Kwantlen Polytechnic University

2014’S NEW COLOR OF THE YEAR REVEALED BY PANTONE
Move over Emerald, there’s a new “it” color in town. Pantone revealed yesterday the 2014 color of the year; Radiant Orchid (PANTONE 18-3224). I was pleasantly surprised to discover this lovely shade of purple known as Radiant Orchid. I’ve had a love hate relationship with this color, often finding it childish, but this shade is […]
