Brittany J. Jones : Utility Jacket

Cargo Twill (38705-10) Utility Jacket: Simplicity 8700: TÉLIO Collaboration by Brittany J. Jones

Hey everybody! What a great month of sewing this has been! I’ve had the best time creating some great fall transitional pieces, and I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing them! The first project I made during this collaboration with TÉLIO was an easy pullover casual top! That Rayon Challis fabric I used was amazing!!

The second week, was all about pants, and I made these fab wide leg pants in a black denim using Simplicity 8701! The classic button up-shirt was next! I mean, what better shirt to have in your fall wardrobe other than a button up?! I love them and can’t wait to add a couple more to my wardrobe soon! I believe I saved the best for last though, but I’ll let you be the judge! What’s fall with a jacket?!

Today is all about Simplicity 8700, the utility jacket! I love this style of jacket! In my last post, I mentioned how fun and casual I think they are. You can really have fun with pockets, zippers, hoods you name it!

For fabric, I used this amazing Cargo Twill (style# 38705, color: 10 Ochre). It the perfect fabric for this jacket! i love the weight, the stretch, and the color! Its available in many other great colors like, the classic black, navy, and olive! You can find them all here at Stone Mountain Fabrics.

I had a great time sewing up this jacket. This is another one of their Pattern Hacking patterns, so the instructions are filled with tips like doing fringe, patches, and adding other details to your jacket. I paired my jacket with the two other looks from this month and I think it all goes together great!

I do have to say, that the facing on this jacket was drafted too long. When it comes time to slipstitch it over the yoke, its impossible to do it like the diagram in the instructions has because its too long. Be sure to come back and watch my Sew With Me video for this jacket on Friday. I walk through the steps that I made to fix it and give my jacket a clean finish on the inside!

I love that inside casing! I think it was a fun way to use up every piece of that rayon fabric! Well, thats a wrap to an amazing month of fall sewing! Huge thanks to TÉLIO for collaborating with me this entire month!!! It was truly a fun time! I really hope you’ve enjoyed my collaboration and have been inspired to begin Fall sewing! Until next time….
